6 Ways to Make Your Social Ads More Engaging
Are you running social ads but they don’t seem to be getting any traction? Correct targeting is crucial, but if your targeting is on point and you aren’t getting conversions or a good interaction rate, you may need to make some changes. Below are 6 great ways to increase social ad engagement.
1. Keep it short and sweet.
Did you know that the human mind needs less than half a second to engage with mobile advertising & trigger a reaction (positive or negative)? This means it’s important to hone in on your messaging and condense it. If you have a lengthier copy, utilize emojis (these can be simple symbols) to break up and format your text. In addition, the majority of people prefer to absorb information visually, so utilizing long-form text can be an immediate turn-off.
2. Think through ad placements & formats.
Make sure your ads are optimized for different placements. You will need different ad sizes and potentially different formats for different placements, but it’s worth doing it correctly. As an example of optimizing sizes for your different placements, consider an ad on desktop versus an ad on mobile. There’s a good chance your text could be cut off on mobile if you didn’t optimize the ad. If your CTA is cut off or the ad doesn’t make sense, you could be wasting valuable ad spend. You’ll also want to consider which format to use. The main formats for Facebook & Instagram ads are image, video, carousel, and collection. Think through your target market and what format might they prefer. You’ll also want to consider trends at the time of your launch. This guide is a great starting point.
3. Make it move.
Video ads are twice as likely to create an emotional response. However, if given the choice between low-quality video and a high-resolution image, I’ll always recommend going with the image. If you are in a time-crunch or a well-produced video isn’t in the budget, GIFs are a great option to add movement to your ad creative. Anything eye-catching is going to get the best engagement and attract attention.
4. Have a direct CTA (Call-To-Action).
Remember, you only have a short amount of time to catch the attention of your audience. The same is true for getting them to interact with your ad. Be direct with what you want them to do and make sure it makes sense with where the ad is directed and it’s a simple conversion.
5. Invest in quality.
As mentioned above, the quality of the creatives you choose is crucial to the success of your campaign. If you spend $2,000 towards an ad campaign, but your creatives were poor quality and no one clicked or interacted with your ad, you’ve wasted $2,000. This doesn’t mean the creatives need to be complicated. High quality and simplicity are always better than reaching for something more complicated and executed poorly.
6. Run tests.
A/B testing is an excellent way to test out creatives, messaging, and your CTA. Plugin different options and compare results. If you utilize CBO (Campaign Budget Optimization), your budget will automatically go towards your ad set that yields the best results.
